About Deogarh

Map of Deogarh DistrictSituated between 21° 31' 53" N latitude and 84° 43' 2" E longitude, Deogarh is situated in the Western part of Orissa covering an area of 2781.66 sq.km. Deogarh district came into existence after bifurcation from the erstwhile Sambalpur district and started functioning as a separate district from 1st January 1994. Deogarh is bounded on the east & the South by Angul District, West by Sambalpur district & North by Sundargarh district.

Geography

Deogarh District is entirely constituted of hilly tract. The Hill system of Deogarh can be categorized into four distinct ranges:

  • The Khajuria Range on the north running from West-East in Badbar-Pragana of Deogarh Police Station having a maximum height of 745 meters.
  • The Pradhanpat & Kaidanta Ranges having maximum height of 743 meters and 816 meters on the North.
  • The Pawri Range on the eastern side of the River Brahmani which is 678 meters in height.
  • The Ushakothi Range in Kansar & Reamal Police Stations. The hill ranges have elevation ranging from 610 meters to 762 meters from the mean Sea Levels.
