Boudh district is located on the bank of Mahanadi which also forms its western and northern boundary. Formed in the month of January 1994 by splitting it out of Phulbani,Boudh district covers an area of 3444 sq.km with its head quarter based in the town and NAC of Boudh. Across the river Mahanadi lie the districts of Bolangir to the west, Sonepur to its northwest and Angul to the north east. Nayagarh District lies to its southeast, Phulbani to the south and Kalahandi to the southwest. Though a new district, Boudh is strategically important district of orissa.
